A Fragrant Delight

Its sweet and sour taste, vibrant yellow color, and smell sends you into a lemon fantasy.

Limoncello is a Sorrento staple and has quickly become one of my favorite drinks.

Whether you are looking for an afternoon pick-me-up, a cold refreshing drink to relieve the heat, or an after-dinner digestive agent, limoncello is there!

Walking down the streets of Sorrento, Capri, and Amalfi there is a flood of vibrant lemon patterns, lemons the size of some people’s heads, and limoncello.

Limoncello is a liquor traditionally made with the zest of Femminello lemons, native to Sorrento.

This is one of the few drinks served chilled.

Often limoncello is served before or after a meal as a digestive aid. While sipping on limoncello after a meal it is important to cheers for good health!

There are several different tales about the origin of limoncello, however, I was told that it was created due to the mass production of lemons.

The Sorrento climate, infact, allows lemons to thrive and as they say, “when life gives you lemons make limoncello” or something like that.

My favorite way to drink limoncello is in a Limoncello Spritz!

On a hot summer day when you have been by the water all day and are finally ready to relax an ice-cold spritz is the perfect remedy.

As aperitivo, Limoncello Spritz is a delightful combination of limoncello, prosecco, and club soda.

It is the epitome of summer and sunshine in a cup. The lemony flavor paired with the bubbles is perfect!

Another popular way to drink limoncello is the Limoncello slush.

It is similar to an American Slush Puppie, a frozen lemonade with a slight kick.

You can find stands along all the roads, often served in a giant carved-out lemon.

If you love a sour treat that is also good for your health, limoncello and Sorrento is the perfect place to be!

A presto,

Hannah
