A Student's Journey in Sorrento

Ciao readers!

My name is Megan Kesner and I am a student from America studying at Sant’Anna Institute for the next three and a half months.

I thoroughly enjoy reading and writing and using those outlets to express myself, so I feel incredibly lucky to be able to share my experience in Sorrento through my writing while I am here.

Discovering the Enchanting Beauty of Sorrento

Traveling has always made me feel inspired and connected to the world around me, even if it is trips of the shortest distances.

This is only my second time in Europe, and it’s my first time ever in Italy.

After only seeing images of Sorrento online and never in person, it was no surprise to me that it’s even more beautiful seeing it with my own eyes!

The breathtaking views, mouthwatering smells of Italian cuisine, and the song that the sea creates when the waves melt into one another are all like no other.

This is a once in a lifetime experience and I’m so thrilled to be able to take everyone on my journey thanks to About Sorrento.

Savoring Italian Cuisine and Local Adventures

Over my first couple of days I was able to explore and stroll the streets surrounding Piazza Tasso, the main square in Sorrento, which was named after the famous poet Torquato Tasso.

It rained quite a bit when I first arrived, but it did not put a stop to the exploring or the magic of Sorrento at all.

It was still just as dreamy and made me appreciate any short-lived visit from the sun just that much more.

I had my first Italian pizza from “Pizzeria da Franco” and got pistachio gelato from “Raki.

My Love for Marina Grande's Free Cats

I swam in between my classes at Marina Grande’s free public beach area and was amazed at the shade of glistening blue that the water was.

One of my favorite parts of my stay in Italy so far has been meeting the plethora of “gatti liberi” (free cats) that roam around.

I realize this might not be a widely shared opinion, but my love for cats has only grown stronger since my time here in Sorrento as I have my own kitten back at home.

Future Plans: Embracing Culture, History and Lifestyle

Over the next few months I hope to explore more, try all of the local restaurants, learn the history that surrounds me, embrace a brand new culture, and find out what it means to live a true Sorrento lifestyle.

Through my articles you will be able to see and experience all of it with me!

Stay tuned for next week, ciao!
